I am a first-gen, Latinx (Tejano), scholar from Houston, Tx. My interest in translation started somewhat early. High-school level Latin taught me the fundamentals of language and to translate from those Latin fundamentals into English.  From this first exposure, I developed an awareness of language as itself an historical artifact. Currently, my work seeks to relate that awareness to the Heideggerian concept of “worlding,” which adds a this-worldly dimension to an otherwise temporally-grounded idea.  To put all of this into actionable terms, I am interested in a foundational concept of language as a sort of time-traveling and world-traveling vehicle, and translation as the means by which this property of language becomes possible. If viewed in this way, translation then becomes a means to build a sense of solidarity among peoples by creating a temporally and spatially-worlded point of being that can then be shared, or so I hope to show.
