Application InformationThe Master of Arts - Option in Translation provides advanced training for translators and interpreters who are or will be preparing for careers in legal, medical, commercial, technical, and social service fields. Applicants are admitted on the basis of academic record, GRE general test scores, and a personal statement submitted in English and in Spanish. An undergraduate major in Spanish is not required. The twenty-four credits of course work may include theory and practice of translation and interpretation, linguistics, literature, culture and literary theory. There is a foreign language requirement and a six-credit thesis, which is a translation.
The Graduate School of Rutgers University must approve admission to the Graduate Program in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Normally, the department requires its candidates to have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or better during the junior and senior undergraduate years, and a GPA of 3.5 in the major field of study. Foreign students must also submit TOEFL scores.
